Africa Project Update

The Bridge Walk season is the time of year we turn our attention to the work in Zambia and celebrate a tangible manifestation of the transformation of practice.

As I write this, I have just come back from a day out in Kantolomba, at the end of week two of our visit. It is an extraordinary thing we are all doing. It is not unlike watching a child grow where, when you pay close attention, you realize you can see the changes every day—the transformation happens right before your eyes.

This trip we have placed great emphasis on English. There are English classes of all sorts happening every day on the property: preschoolers, primary, high school students reading, adult beginning English, adult advanced. That, in itself, has been wonderful and fun. But the most remarkable part has been to watch the “culture” of English spread on its own. Every day there are more signs of its reach. Just today Beatrice, one of the teachers, told us she was amazed last night to hear her 2 year old son, Delight, singing, “Hello, how are you?” He had overheard his older siblings!

There is a generation of children now growing up in Living Compassion.  It is a great honor to watch that process and to be able to participate!
