We are soon to welcome a new member of the team in Kantolomba. Joan, recently widowed when her husband died after a string of several, long illnesses likely the result of AIDS, will come aboard as the newest member of the cooperative.
Theresa reports that a huge burden was lifted when Joan received the invitation. She has three small children, the youngest just over a year old. While mourning the loss of her husband, she has been worried about how she would look after her children without her husband’s income.
Joining the Living Compassion cooperative will not only afford Joan the ability to provide for her children, it will also mean the children get all the benefits of being part of the community, from eating nutritious meals to regular health care to learning English. As we near Bridge Walk season, it is a tangible reminder that what we are all doing together is making a difference.
Watch for photos of Joan and her children in the upcoming blogs—we will be on the ground in Ndola in the middle of this month!
Gasshō,
Jen
