I was so touched by this email from Theresa:
'A happy smile. Little 10 year old Silver, one of the many lucky ones who eat at Living Compassion, has lost both her parents. Yes, I know that this is the picture of everyday life here in Kantolomba, but this little girl touched my heart on Wednesday when she came in. She sat quietly in class and tears where rolling down her cheeks. Veronica asked her why she was crying and she told her that she had a headache. Veronica called me over. I instructed that she be taken to the clinic by her grandmother. Just as she was about to be taken home, Silver motioned to me and said, “Auntie Theresa, please do not take me home; I am not sick. I did not eat yesterday evening; my grandmother did not find any food where she went so we just went to bed without food.” This broke my heart. I remembered years back when I also passed through the same thing of sleeping on an empty stomach. This made me realize again that Living Compassion is really a force to reckon with—it is there for all these little hungry stomachs who are so fortunate to have this program. Just like that, little Silver, after our chat, was given some food and like Magic she had this big smile on her face and after her meal went back to class.'
My favorite part is how she capitalized “Magic”—seems a synonym for the kindness of Life, or practice.
