Braiding Sweetgrass

On a call a while back, someone told me about a book I would love. This is not an unusual occurrence and I responded along usual—and true!—lines that I don’t read. I simply don’t have time. Of course, I do have time, but reading is not something I want to take the time to do. A while later someone recommended the same book, and I reiterated my explanation that I know there are so many wonderful books and I simply don’t/won’t make the time to get through them. When the third person told me about the book in a sort of “no, you don’t understand, you have to read this book, it’s about what you want to do,” it dawned that perhaps this was my “meet me halfway, Sol, by a ticket” moment. It was, and I offer my heartfelt apologies to the first two folks who attempted to deliver the message.

So, if you are drawn to this next phase of practice, if you feel a pull to be part of saying “thank you, how might I assist” to the earth, please read this book! (That is, if you haven’t already; I may be the last to hop on the bandwagon.) It’s called Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. To belabor a point (no time to read, dontcha know), I’m listening to it, which I highly recommend. Her voice and her presentation are as gorgeous as the book.

The attitude of mind expressed in Braiding Sweetgrass is the vision for how we want to be, how we want to live, and what this new place of practice will aspire to embody.
