Africa Project Update

We have just returned from another wonderful trip to Zambia. If you have not seen the blog, be sure to check out the latest news and photos. If you have read the blog you know that the folks on Kantolomba LC team who can read English started reading Cheri’s books. For the first time they asked us directly about practice and meditation.

One Friday afternoon they asked us to teach them how to meditate. We gathered in one of the classrooms and sat on the floor. We did not have 30 zafus, but luckily these folks have incredible posture and can sit up straight with no cushion. We talked through sitting posture, focusing on the breath and counting on the exhalation. “Just being here, breathing, attention in the present moment. Nothing to do. No where to go. Drop all worry, all planning , everything other than being right here, right now, with all that is.”

We gave the instruction in English, Theresa translated in Bemba. Sharing the intimacy of present moment silence underlined for us once again that we are all the same. The content of our lives looks as different as content of life can be, but when we strip all that away, it is clear, once again, that we are one.  For me, it inspires the commitment during this Bridge Walk season to gather our resources and recommit to our growing Sangha in Kantolomba.
