Africa Project Update

In our calls with Theresa, we usually spend time talking about what’s going on at the property and with our girls at school, and what new information we may need to know about changes to the educational system. But as the whole world is managing a new normal, so is the team in Kantolomba.  Our calls now are focused on the status of the virus in Zambia and how the team and community are managing.  Here is the latest information.

So far there are 654 confirmed cases of the virus in Zambia, with more being reported each day. However, there are currently no confirmed cases in Ndola.

Two of our nursing students, Silvia and Mirriam, who were out in the field for training for the last month, have returned back to the nursing school as they enter their final year.

The government said it is planning to re-open schools in early June for students in their exam years.  They are changing the classroom structures so students will sit apart from each other and wear masks and have wash stations and hand sanitizer.

Theresa shared that even with all that is going on, everyone is in high spirits because everyone is doing their part by social distancing, hand washing/sanitizing, and wearing masks made of chitenge.

It has been amazing and humbling to speak with Theresa each week and hear how quickly everyone pivoted to put the safety guidelines into practice.  They are truly all in this together!
