On a recent call with Theresa, we were marveling at how much has happened within the program in the last year. The fundraising website for this year’s Bridge Walk campaign reflects this perfectly!
Five first graders attend an English-speaking school for the first time ever.
Ten fifth-graders are doing the same.
Four young women are in their second year of nursing school.
Three young women just enrolled in teacher training.
A tailor and carpenter are in the making through a new skills program.
In my experience with forests, there can be different ways to enter and several paths available to explore the beauty there. However, up until recently, our girls had only one path: go to local government school and then get married.
But these trees are becoming a forest! And how exciting it is to watch them grow and the paths develop around them.
Attending pre-school. Going to a better school. Going to a school where everyone speaks only English so a new world of possibilities opens. Attending a skills programs that will lead to personal income. Becoming a nurse, a teacher and more—one of our girls in her senior year wants to be a police officer.
Who knows what new paths and trees will grow in the next year? I can’t wait to see.
