Theresa and I were speaking recently, reviewing how each of the girls is doing with her studies, as we do regularly. For several of our girls this is an exam year, which means they have to pass to move on to the next grade or to graduate.
As we talked about each girl, Theresa would start off saying what she normally says, “She is doing fine,” and then elaborate if they are doing particularly well in one area or have some challenges. However, this time around, Theresa gave a new description of how the girls are doing: “She is very serious;” “She’s taking things seriously now;” “She is more serious and committed.”
In fact, Theresa described Natasha, our notorious jokester, as follows: “She is very serious with her work. She is very much admiring what Silvia and Mirriam have done. She has said, ‘I won’t be left out.’” In fact, Natasha has asked Theresa to take her along the next time Theresa visits Silvia and Mirriam because she wants to see for herself the college and what it is really like.
Wow. Our college girls have made an impact.
I project watching the girls go off to college who ate with them, played with them, and studied with them has made what they felt to be an impossibility a goal that can be achieved.
It’s so wonderful to watch the next wave of girls get “serious” and follow the lead of the first graduates.
In deep gratitude,
Sreedevi
