Africa Project Update

On a recent call, Theresa and I talked about the girls who just finished grade 12. Two of them, Silvia and Mirriam, passed their exams. Rachel and Esther are planning on sitting again for their exams. Throughout our call, I watched the question of “What do we do now?” constantly flit through my mind.

Our grade 12 girls are the first ones in the program to get this far!!! It is exciting and thrilling to see what they have accomplished. So what happens next? I project, if we were living in an egocentrically karmically conditioned world, the conversation would be non-stop. Lots of ideas and beliefs about what should happen, could happen, must happen….

Yet, when we take a step back, we have the opportunity to relax into the gentle kindness of “I don’t know.” We have not been here before! So it isn’t possible to know anything. Therefore, we can simply sit still and continue to explore what is possible, with no beliefs or assumptions of what should, could or must happen…simply the willingness to be with it all.

In this place, I’m reminded of the part of the morning recitation that goes as follows:

In the practice of loving kindness.

In the practice of pure attention.

In the practice of ever expanding faith.

In the practice of constant devotion.

In the practice of inquiry through correct Dhyana.

In this way, I do most deeply vow to train myself.
