Over the last several weeks, it’s dropped in what a unique experience it is to participate with a group of people who are united in what we are going for. What a gift and privilege it is to be in this company, where my experience is one of unconditional love and support.
Recently, I heard two phrases that I project are the critical part of creating that experience: “We’re all in this together” and “We all contribute a little.” The second phrase is a translation of the Bemba word “Ukusanka.” Theresa shared this word after telling us a story about how the cooperative members each contributed their own money to support one of the girls in continuing her education, after the girl's family chose to support their son moving to the next grade.
There are so many moments like that we have heard about – how this community comes together to offer support, with a generosity of spirit and unconditional love, even though they have so little to begin with:
Taking the chitenge frayed at the edges and asking one of the girls in the sewing program to fix it as a project to nurture her growth and skills.
Using cooperative funds to support entrepreneurship, helping a member of the community build her own business and create a sustainable income.
Helping to buy items for our nursing school girls to begin their first year of the program because “It’s the loving family we are.”
There are many stories like this. So much being offered every single day by each of those individuals who are Living Compassion Kantolomba. Everyone contributing however they can, creating and building this wonderful universe. Encouraging, mentoring, loving.
Ukasanka. We’re all in this together.
