Africa Project Update

The 2014 Bridge Walk season is launched!

In case you’re not dialed in, we set a goal for ourselves to collectively walk 52,000,000 steps between now and October 4. That’s the number of steps it would take to get from Murphys (home-base here in CA) to Ndola (home-base in Zambia).

The goal sprang from our year-long theme of Upping Your Game. The idea to link caring for the body with the Bridge Walk season builds on the practice principle that we will do for the love of others what we would not be willing to do for ourselves.  When we set out to be fit, we do it because we want to, we want to care for the body. When egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate tries to talk us out of it, having a motivation like assisting our 800 children and 35 adult friends in Kantolomba can be just the boost we need to keep us on track with what our heart really wants.

And, the team in Kantolomba has reciprocated. When they heard about our 52,000,000 steps, they wanted to add their own. They have set a goal to collectively read 52,000,000 words between now and October 4. That’s a lot of words!

And you know what’s fun? Theresa says they are doing it for the love of their friends in America who are walking those 52,000,000 steps! I guess it’s true in every direction: we will do for the love of others… And just think what those 52,000,000 steps will do for those of us who live in a culture largely sedentary and what those 52,000,000 words will do for the gang working to become literate! If that’s not the most fun win-win-win-win… you’ve heard in a long time!

Join in the fun (we need your steps!)

Gassho,
Jen
