Monastery Wall

The first week of winter storms dumped sheets of rain, filling the courtyard pond to the brim.

The wetness brought out the deep shades of red in the blanket of pine needles from fall molting.

The garden fence doing its job; “Lots of delicious things to eat in there!”

Every leaf of cover crop in the upper garden is bejeweled with morning dew for a few moments before burning off in the first rays of brilliant, morning sun.

Ere long, this tiny leaf will be served on the Monastery table as a delightful, fresh cabbage.

A magnificent dance of steam pirouettes from the lower garden as overnight temperatures in the 30s give way to a gloriously sunny day.
