A couple of years ago I heard about a new kind of bank. I confess I often pursue things motivated by something other than greed, hate, and delusion, anything aimed at “that which is most compassionate for all.” I don’t expect people to go into business to give everything away and be surprised that they go broke, but there is something between that and what feels increasingly like a business model of “give us all your money and we will do as little for you as humanly possible. Oh, and we will abuse all along the way, starting with the earth, everyone along the supply chain, right up through the packaging you’re not going to be able to recycle.”
So, when I hear about a bank whose mission statement is “helping everyone do well and do good,” I wanted to know more. They plant trees!? I pay whatever I choose for monthly service!? Hmm…okay! I joined, and it’s a so-far-so-good relationship.
Here’s where this sort of thing has always gotten iffy in the past: I tell people about something like this and the ego voice narrows its imaginary eyes, hunches forward, and snarl whispers, “What’s in this for Cheri?” Would it ever do that with Amazon or Apple or Wayfair or Walmart? Never. But something like this? Well, you can’t be too careful, now can you?
Thus, here is my offer to you:
It is true that if you join Aspiration because I told you about them, they will put $50 in my account. To avoid any possibility of ego’s narrow-eyed snarls, here’s my proposition: IF you
